Zoning Change that will Allow Lighthouse Youth Services to Purchase a Corryville Building

In June 2010, City Council approved a zoning change that will allow Lighthouse Youth Services to purchase a Corryville building (2522 Highland Avenue) for a 28-bed shelter for homeless youth. Both the Corryville and Mt. Auburn Community Councils support the project, which will allow Lighthouse to better address the needs of the approximately 1,000 homeless youth the agency serves annually.

New YWCA Shelter for Single Homeless Women

On August 30, 2010, the CoC, Inc. announced that the YWCA of Greater Cincinnati will operate a new, separate shelter for single homeless women. The  The 2009 Homeless to Homes Plan called for establishing a separate emergency shelter for women based on research showing that more women will use a women-only facility than a co-ed facility.  The Drop Inn Center currently operates a 42-bed women's shelter in Over-the-Rhine. The YWCA has 60 beds for women and families in its domestic violence shelter, more than half of which are at times occupied by single women. Trip to National Church Residences (NCR) in Columbus

Vice Mayor Qualls and the Cincinnati/Hamilton County Continuum of Care for the Homeless, Inc. are working with the city administration and NCR to explore bringing a similar development to Cincinnati as part of the Homeless to Homes Plan implementation strategy. Read more about the NCR trip here.

Tour of the Two Permanent Supportive Housing Sites

On August 23, 2010 City Manager Milton Dohoney, Jr., Councilmembers Chris Bortz, Laure Quinlivan and Wendell Young, and dozens of advocates and service providers for the homeless joined Vice Mayor Qualls on a tour of the two Permanent Supportive Housing sites developed by National Church Residences (NCR) in Columbus: The Commons at Grant and The Commons at Buckingham, which opened this summer.

Renovation of the Anna Louise Inn

In July 2010, Cincinnati Union Bethel received tax credits from the Ohio Housing Financing Agency for renovation of the Anna Louise Inn. The Anna Louise Inn secured the top ranking in a competitive Permanent Supportive Housing project category. The renovation will result in 85 units of permanent supportive housing for homeless women and will allow the Inn to provide safe, affordable housing for women, as it has for more than a century. Read more about the renovation here.

The Homeless to Homes Plan: Implementation Report and Update

The report recommends significant changes aimed at helping homeless people successfully move to appropriate housing, including changes to the emergency shelter system, more transitional and permanent housing options, and new cooperative efforts among funders.
